First words written in Spanish (Castilian) language
In the 11th century, in the margins of a Latin text, a monk noted down the translation in the Romance language, a popular Latin which was later to evolve into what we now call Castilian. These explanatory notes are the so-called Emilian Glosses, considered to be the earliest written evidence of the Castilian language.
